Anaerobic Xylanolytic Bacterium from Decayed Pinus patula Wood Chips
نویسنده
چکیده
An anaerobic, mesophilic, sporeforming, xylanolytic bacterium was isolated from decayed Pinus patula wood chips. The cells of this organism were gram-negative rods, had peritrichous flagella, and formed terminal round endospores which distended the cell wall. Xylan, cellobiose, fructose, glucose, maltose, mannose, melezitose, raffinose, rhamnose, salicin, sucrose, and xylose were utilized. The optimum temperature and optimum pH for growth were 35°C and 7.2, respectively. The DNA composition was 40 mol% guanine plus cytosine. The name Clostridium xylanolyticum sp. nov. is proposed for this bacterium. The type strain is strain ATCC 49623.

Pulp & Paper Canada T 116 106:5 (2005) ❘ ❘ ❘ 41 HE ADVERSE EFFECTS of wood decay on chip quality, pulp yield, and pulp quality have been well documented [8,2024,27]. Decay can enter the chip supply either by utilization of decayed standing wood [14] or through prolonged or improper storage [16]. The net effect of using decayed wood for pulping is cost increases due to decreases in pulp yield, r...

The tree stability-assessment methodology currently used in Italian cities initially follows a visual analysis of individual trees, followed by an evaluation of the internal state using different instruments that are often invasive, expensive, or cannot be effectively used in the urban environment. Moreover, many of these instruments do not provide an adequate evaluation of decay that occurs in...

Development of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus Populations in Wood Chips with Different Moisture Contents.
Bags of Pinus strobus wood chips with moisture contents of 38, 92, 164, and 217% (oven dry weight) were inoculated with Bursaphelenchus xylophilus and incubated at 30 C in order to determine the effect of wood moisture on nematode population development. Nematodes were extracted after 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Population levels were greatest in wood chips with a moisture content of 38% and decreas...

The South African pulp industry is reliant on Pinus patula as a main constituent of the softwood raw material. However, trees in plantations can periodically be physiologically stressed due to a variety of biotic and abiotic factors. Damaged or dead trees can constitute a loss of pulpwood production to the mill, with the economic consequence of having to source the timber elsewhere on the open ...
